American tenor, Jason Papowitz, is quickly becoming known for his musical passion and powerful lyrico-spinto voice. He has performed a number of the central leading roles in the operatic literature including, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, il Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, Manrico in Il Trovatore, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Don José in Carmen, Alfredo in La Traviata, and Radamès in Aïda. He has also recently added Turiddu to his repertoire and is currently preparing Florestan and Riccardo/Gustavo.
At his first audition in Europe at the prestigious Prague State Opera, he was immediately offered a year-long contract including the opening night performance of the title role in a new production of Don Giovanni by Gazzaniga. Other theaters, companies and venues include: The National Opera Theater, Taiwan; the Virgin Atlantic Holders Festival, Barbados; Ostrava State Opera; Plovdiv National Opera; Stara Zagora Opera; numerous theaters in England on the Eurostage 2002 Tour; numerous theaters throughout the United States with Opera Verdi Europa; Santa Margherita Summer Festival, Italy; Amato Opera; Dicapo Opera; Taconic Opera; OperaWorks; and Opera in the Heights, Texas. His recital, oratorio and concert work has included a young artist debut and pops concert with the Lyric Orchestra, Verdi Gala Concerts, with Filharmonie Bohuslava Martinú, Zlin, Karlovarsky Symfonicky orchestras, Operetta Concerts with the Prague Chamber Orchestra in Smetana Hall, Prague, a concert performance of Carmen with the Vratza Philharmonic orchestra, tenor soloist in Rossini's La Petite Messe Solennelle at La Fête de la Musique in Geneva, a live televised New Year's Day concert from the Prague State Opera, and the Prizewinners Concert of the Mozarteum during the Salzburg Festival in the summer of 2001.
