Born in Venezuela, Mr. Calcano graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milano, Italy. He made his professional debut in Milan at the Teatro Angelicum in the opera ‘LeCantatrice Villane’ By Antonio Fioravanti and then embarked on a concert tour of Haendels’ ‘Messiah’ in Sicily, Bergamo and Verona. New York audiences heard him as Nemorino in ‘Elisir d’amore’ and as Tonio in ‘The Daughter of the Regiment’ under the baton of Joseph Rescigno.
At the Teresa Carreno, the Municipal and the National Theaters in Venezuela, Calcano performed the roles of Alfredo in ‘La Traviata’, Don Ottavio in ‘Don Giovanni’ Nemorino in ‘Elisir d’amore’, Manrico in ‘Il Trovatore’ Ernesto in ‘Don Pasquale’ Beppe in ‘Rita’, Ferrando in ‘Cosi fan tutte’, the Duke in ‘Rigoletto’, Bastiano in ‘Bastiano and Bastiana’, Flaminio in ‘Il Trionfo dell’Onore. He is scheduled for Radames in ‘Aida’ for December 05.
His concert repertory includes the Beethoven 9th, Carmina Burana, the Mahler 8th, Stabat Mater by Rossini, the Weddings by Stravinsky and the St. Matthew Passion by Bach………

Mr. Calcano has worked with well-known conductors that include: Carlos Riazuelo, Theo Alcantara, Pedor Calderon, Jose Antonio Abreu, Alfredo Rugeles, Carlos Piantini, Gian Paolo Bracali,

His recordings include two complete CD’s with the music of Brahms, Haydn and some Venezuelan Composers.

Mr. Calcano’s opera repertoire today includes:
LA BOHEME, WERTHER, LUISA MILLER, MASKED BALL, RIGOLETTO, LA TRAVIATA, TOSCA, DON CARLO, LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA, PAGLIACCI, TURANDOT, ANDREA CHENIER and all of the better known ZARZUELAS.
The tenor now resides in New York City….
